Cosun has set itself the ambition of operating the most energy efficient businesses in the Netherlands. To save energy and make the best possible use of it, all locations must take the same approach so they do not keep reinventing the wheel. The Cosun Food Technology Centre (CFTC) has therefore developed a method the businesses can use in their quest for energy savings.
A good example is the Aviko location in Cuijk. In 2010, after just one day's consultation between the responsible managers and CFTC's energy specialists, it identified dozens of savings opportunities. With surprising improvements as a result. Chilled potato products, for example, are now sterilised in their packaging and pallets waiting to join the production line are pre-heated using excess warm water. Less electricity and energy are therefore needed to sterilise the products and the warming-up time is reduced.
