Product development

Our specialists at CFTC work on Cosun’s own products (ingredients, semi-manufactures and end products) and develop applications for, for example, manufacturers of consumer products. We offer technical support and applied research that meet the customers' business needs.

Nearly ten highly trained members of staff oversee the entire field of sweeteners, inulin, hydrocolloids and emulsifiers. In applications, we are experienced in dairy products, soft drinks, biscuits and baked goods, confectionery, sauces and potato products.

The activities encompass the creation and assessment aspects (analysis, sensory testing) of product development and such techniques as extrusion, coating & encapsulating, rheology, and sensory testing.

Students get a taste of Cosun
Students from the HAS University of Applied Sciences in Den Bosch are eager to learn more about the importance of carbohydrates in product development. Workshops explain their role in ice cream, baked goods, confectionery and other applications. The students look, try and taste. And are asked questions such as "What happens to carbohydrates – sugar – in ice cream?" They learn about crystallisation by making sweets. “You can use glucose syrup or sugar. What's the relationship between them? And what makes a sweet hard or soft? We explain what makes something taste the way it does and hold tasting sessions," said Erik de Been, a specialist in sensory research.
