Cosun takes over Atlanta Dethmers

7 March 2007

Royal Cosun and Raffinerie Tirlemontoise S.A. have reached an agreement about the sale of Atlanta Dethmers (Groningen, NL) to Cosun. Atlanta Dethmers produces and sells ingredients for the baked goods sector and will become a part of the Unifine Food & Bake Ingredients (Unifine F&Bi) business group. In particular, the range of bakery mixes and cream powders will form an excellent addition to the existing product range of Unifine F&Bi. The takeover concerns the business operations and is effective as of 5 March 2007. The Dethmers bake-off business is not a part of this takeover.
It is the ambition of Unifine F&Bi to become a major player in the European market for food ingredients for bakery, confectionery and ice-cream. Acquisitions have been carried out in south and central Europe during the last period. The acquisition of Atlanta Dethmers, based in the city of Groningen, fits within the strategy to further strengthen the position in the northwest of Europe. Furthermore, this takeover will mean an expansion of the production capacity in this region of the European market and a strengthening of the product development.
Atlanta Dethmers has concentrated on the development, production, and marketing of bakery ingredients for both the retail and the industrial bakery sector in the Netherlands and the surrounding countries. These activities were no longer part of the core activities of the vendor. The company is based in Groningen and had been part of Raffinerie Tirlemontoise S.A. since 1998.
