Launch of the 2015 beet campaign

22 September 2015
On the 22nd of September, the sugar factory in Dinteloord processed the first beet of the 2015 campaign. The factory in Vierverlaten starts sugar production on the 25th of September.

The start dates for the two Dutch factories are partly determined with a view to optimising the logistics of transporting the beet and sugar. Suiker Unie expects to complete the campaign before the end of the year, which makes it much  shorter than in previous years. The sugar beet acreage this year is considerably smaller as a result of the large quantity of sugar carried forward from the 2014 campaign. In fact, part of the EU sugar quota was produced last year. The total quantity of beet to be processed in the 2015 campaign is approximately 4.8 million tons and will produce around 800,000 tons of granulated sugar.
