We all love good food. At Cosun, we make products from arable crops such as potatoes and sugar beets: from fries to pancake syrup. Given the growing interest in a healthy lifestyle we also produce healthy alternatives that contribute to a balanced diet, such as potato rosti for the air fryer or crispy oven fries. Our products connect people, cultures and flavours around the world.
We extract functional ingredients from arable crops. Plant-based proteins are an excellent alternative for animal proteins and do not change the flavour or texture of foods, such as ice cream. We use inulin fibre to replace sugar and fat in products such as energy bars. These ingredients have a positive effect on health. Our food ingredients make an important contribution to a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.
Plants are full of ingredients with functional properties. Ingredients derived from sugar beets, chicory and potatoes, for example, can be used to thicken, stabilise, soften or hydrate – extremely useful properties in the non-food industry. They are also 100% plant-based and biodegradable, which also makes them safe for people and the planet. Plant-based raw materials form a circular and sustainable foundation for household cleaning products, personal care products and paint.
During the production of foodstuffs, residual flows are created that serve as raw materials for nutritious animal feed. We supply plant-based ingredients for high-quality dog and cat food, from vegan kibble to dried vegetables. There is a high consumer demand for pet food with fewer animal ingredients. In addition to having a good environmental footprint, these products are made using the residual waste from our crops.
After processing our crops, we are left with biomass, which we use to produce green gas. Thanks to this circular process, no part of our crops go to waste. Cosun is the largest green gas producer in the Netherlands. We also invest in other renewable energy sources, such as solar energy and wind energy. In this way, we are contributing to the energy transition and helping to mitigate climate change.
