Mathys brings strong experience in driving growth and innovation of Food and Food Ingredient businesses. He has held several leadership roles in companies like Unilever, Givaudan and Symrise. Most recently, as CEO of Nurasa he was responsible for investing in sustainable food companies focussing on alternative proteins, ranging from plant based, precision fermented to cultivated. He served on the boards of various start-ups like NextGen Foods, ScaleUp Bio and Cremer Sustainable Foods. Mathys holds a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and an MBA.
In 2022 Cosun anounced the Unlock 25 strategy which provides for the unlocking of the full potential of plants to valuable plant-based solutions (‘The Plant Positive Way’). Innovation & partnership development is one of the key enablers in this strategy. In his new role Mathys will lead the Cosun RD&I group and will work closely together with the Innovation Directors cross business groups to further optimize and accelerate our innovation portfolio, capabilities, and venturing activities.
